AMN / CHENNAI
Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that removal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution will end terrorism and lead to progress of the region.
Mr. Shah said, he firmly believed that Art 370 has neither helped Jammu and Kashmir nor the nation. He was speaking at the launch of a book produced by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on two years of office by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in Chennai today.
Mr Shah recalled the demonstrations held by Mr Naidu seeking the removal of Article 370 during his student days. He said, it was during Mr Naidu’s chairmanship in the Rajya Sabha that the resolution and the bill for the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the state sailed through smoothly.
Mr. Shah praised Mr Naidu for his ascension to the second-highest constitutional position of India from a humble background. Mr. Shah also said, the Vice President always maintains a quality balance between the treasury and the opposition benches in the House of the Elders, despite being deeply ingrained in the BJP ideologies.
