AMN / NEW DELHI
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day as opposition including SP, BSP, RJD, TMC and other parties continued their protests over changes in the faculty recruitment system in colleges and universities.
In the post-lunch session, as BJP MP Bhupender Yadav started speaking on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, opposition members trooped into the Well, raising slogans, leading to adjournment of the House for the day.
Earlier, the parties raised the issue during the Zero Hour, demanding that the government bring a bill to restore the previous 200-point roster system for recruitment to safeguard reservation in higher educational institutions. The House held a brief discussion on the matter.
Responding to the members in the pre-lunch session, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar clarified that the 13-point roaster system has come into being because of the court’s order and not the government’s action. The Minister expressed confidence that justice will be done when a review petition is filed in the court.
