Defence Minister Rajnath Singh holds talks with Maldivian counterpart to strengthen bilateral defence ties

A bilateral meeting was held between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his counterpart of Maldives Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon in New Delhi today. During the talks, the two Ministers reviewed the various facets of bilateral defence cooperation including training, regular military exercises, and defence projects. The Defence Minister of Maldives is on a three-day visit to India.

During his stay, he will also be visiting Goa and Mumbai. India and the Maldives share spiritual, historical, linguistic and ethnic ties. The Maldives occupies a special place in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, which aims to bring stability and prosperity to the Indian Ocean Region. Both nations are key players in maintaining the safety and security of IOR, thus contributing to India’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region.
