Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi IAS,(MP-1987)  has been appointed as chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The decision was taken on Thursday evening, barely a couple of days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) rejected Dr Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh, chosen by outgoing Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani.

The appointment of Chaturvedi, IAS from Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the head of CBSE is considered to be one an important decision taken by the Centre in relation to secondary education. The post was lying vacant since 2014. Two candidates who were suggested by the Irani-led HRD Ministry in the past 2 years had been rejected by the ACC.
