The India Railways will introduce a special Rajdhani Express between the national capital Delhi and the commercial capital of the country Mumbai which will reduce the travelling time by two hours.

Talking to mediapersons, Member (Traffic) Mohd Jamshed said, the train, will run on an experiment basis for three months and the inaugural run will start on October 16.

The special train will run three times a week. The train will be hauled by two locomotives of 5,400 HP each for better acceleration, deceleration and higher speed. This train would run at a maximum speed of 130 kmph and the average speed will be 98.1 Kmph. The train will leave Hazrat Nizamuddin station at 1615 hrs and reach Bandra Terminus at 0610 hrs covering the distance in 13 hours 55 minutes. It will have stoppages at Kota, Vadodara and Surat.

He said, the fares in the new service would be 20 per cent more than the base fares for existing Mumbai Rajdhani without any flexi fare. The 3rd AC will be around Rs Rs 500-600 cheaper that is 19 per cent cheaper than maximum flexi fare of 3rd AC in Mumbai Rajdhani, while the 2nd AC will be around Rs 700-800 cheaper. As many as 13 coaches will be of 3rd AC, two of 2nd AC and one coach of first AC besides one pantry and two power cars. The on board catering on this train is being organised by railway PSU — Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The services will be optional as per the existing menu and tariff of Rajdhani trains. Passengers shall have the choice to opt out of the catering services. There will be provision for evening tea and dinner.
