Congress President Rahul Gandhi will travel to West Asia next week, his first foreign visit after being elevated to the party’s top post, party sources said.
The sources said Mr Gandhi will visit Bahrain on January 7, to attend a conclave of NRIs.
The visit follows Mr Gandhi’s successful tour to the United States last year, during which he had addressed the NRIs, as well as students, at the University of Cambridge.
The move is seen as another effort by the Congress to promote the party as a brand, especially after the positive response to his US visit last year.
Party sources said the last visit to the US helped Mr Gandhi in boosting his image among the NRIs.
