Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi today met the families of the two victims of alleged police firing in Punjab. These two were killed during a protest against the desecration of Holy Granth in Fardikot district, last month. He sat with the family members and consoled them.
Accompanied by Punjab Congress President Pratap Singh Bajwa, former chief minister and deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Capt. Amarinder Singh, former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Punjab Congress legislature party leader Sunil Jakhar and many other party leaders he took out a ‘Pad Yatra’ to reach to village Bargari in the district.
He took part in a prayer meeting organised there at the Gurdwara where the first case of desecration of the Holy Granth had taken place last month. The incident had lead to widespread protests across the state. Mr Gandhi who is on a two-day Punjab visit is likely to meet the farmers tomorrow.
Meanwhile, another case of sacrilege of holy granth has been reported from Tarantaran today. Investigations are on.
