Putin Expresses Condolences to Families of FlyDubai Plane Crash Victims

MOSCOW

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the crash of Boeing 737-800 over Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

FlyDubai Boeing 737-800 from Dubai crashed at about 03:50 Moscow time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday while attempting landing amid poor weather conditions at the Rostov-on-Don Airport (ROV). All 62 people on board the aircraft were killed in the crash.

There were 45 Russian citizens on board, according to the senior assistant.

“The President of Russia expresses deep condolences to all who lost their loved ones in the crash,” Peskov said.

All sixty-one people on board a flight from Dubai were killed when the plane crashed and burst into flames as it was landing in Rostov-on-Don, in Southern Russia, on Saturday morning, a local official said.

FlyDubai Boeing 737-800 plane from Dubai crashed at about 03:50 Moscow time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday while attempting landing amid poor weather conditions at the Rostov-on-Don Airport (ROV). All people on board the aircraft, 55 passengers and seven crew members, were killed in the crash.

“A Boeing 737 crashed as it was coming into land. There were 61 people on board. They are all dead,” said a spokesman from the local ministry, quoted by the official TASS news agency.

There were 55 passengers and six crew members on the plane, the official added.

The accident happened at 0050 GMT, according to an official statement from the emergencies ministry.

“The Boeing 737 on the Dubai to Rostov-on-Don route caught fire (after crashing),” said the statement, adding that the fire was brought under control by 0200 GMT.

According to Sputnik News investigators have found one of the two flight recorders of the FlyDubai Boeing 737-800 plane that crashed in Russia on Saturday, the Investigative Committee’s representative Vladimir Markin said.

Investigators are recovering the remains of the victims which will be subjected to forensic examination. They are also searching for the second flight data recorder.

“The investigators are studying flight documents and examining the actions undertaken by the airport’s emergencies services. They are establishing contacts with FlyDubai representatives who will soon arrive in Rostov-on-Don,” Markin added.
