Chandigarh failed to hold on to the lead and were held to a 1-1 draw by fancied Kerala in their opening U-21 boys’ Football competition in the Khelo India Youth Games at Pune on Thursday.

Dhruv gave Chandigarh the lead in the 62 minutes but nine minutes later Habeeb Rahman fired the equaliser to save a point for his side.

Later, scoring twice in each half, Karnataka collected full points defeating Mizoram 4-1 in this section Alfred Lal Routsang and Sumit Kumar Puran scored a goal each in the first half, while Khwairakpam C Singh and Michael Touthang chipped in with a goal each in the second half to complete the rout. In boys u-17, S.Longjam scored a brace as Punjab opened their campaign with a whirlwind 6-1 win over Uttarakhand . In a one sided encounter, other goal scorers were Gurfreed Singh, Tarun, Akash, and Nangminlun (one each) Abhishar Tiwari was the lone scorer for Uttarakhand

Mizoram beat host Maharashtra 3-0 in the second U-17 match,

Captain Lalnunzama, David Laltlansanga and Lalruatfela were the goal scorers.

In the Girls U-17 section, Riding on Meghna’s seven goal blitz Kerala plundered helpless Himachal Pradesh 28-0 . Other goal scorers were Sona (5), Sreelakshmi, Amaya(three each) Abhirami, Bhagya,Theertha,Ananya (two each) Santhra, Krishendu (one each)

Odisha also gained full points defeating Maharashtra 2-0 in same section. Susmita made no mistake in converting a penalty to give her side a lead and Deepa made it 2-0 to seal the match in her team’s favoure

Tamil Nadu had to wage a grim battle to down Odisha 1-0 in U-21 Girls opener.

Mariyammal Balamurugam scored the goal in the 7th minute and that turned out to be the winner for Tamil Nadu.

In another U-21 match Mizoram trounced Himachal Pradesh 13-0. Lalchhanhimi, Miriam Lalnunsiami (four each) Lalrinmuani (3) and Lalnuntluangi (2) were the scorers.
