Students demands removal of HRD Minister, Smriti Irani, VC Prof Appa Rao

Twenty-five students and two faculty members of Hyderabad Central University have been arrested Wednesday in connection with incidents of ransacking of Vice Chancellor Appa Rao Podile’s lodge and stone pelting on police personnel, police said.
According to Gachibowli police inspector J Ramesh, so far two cases have been booked on charges of damage to public property, trespass and preventing Government officials from performing their duties and other relevant sections of IPC in connection with yesterday’s incidents.
All the accused will be produced in a court soon, he added. Students yesterday violence at the official residence of HCU vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile and police had to lathicharge a group of students during their protest against him resuming charge after a two-month leave in the wake of suicide by Rohit Vemula on January 17.
The protesting students raised slogans against HCU Vice- Chancellor Appa Rao Podile, demanding his immediate removal from the post. They also sought the release of students and faculty members arrested in connection with Tuesday violence in campus.
National Students Union of India, President Roji M John in statement alleged that the protesting students have been taken to unknown locations by the police and aren’t traceable.
“Our fight will not stop till our demands are met. HRD Minister, Smriti Irani, Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and VC Prof Appa Rao should be punished for Rohith’s death. We demand the immediate arrest of Prof Appa Rao who has been booked under the SC/ST atrocities Act. We will continue till a Rohith Law is enacted,” he said.
JNU Students’ Union leader Kanhaiya Kumar Wednseday denied entry into the campus of University of Hyderabad. Accompanied with Rohit Vemula’s mother Radhika, brother Raja and CPI National Secretary Narayana, Kanhaiya reached the UoH campus, but he was stopped at the main gate by the Cyberabad Police.

Speaking to media persons, Kanhaiya condemned the denial of permission to enter into the university. He said it was highly condemnable that a student was being denied permission to enter a university. He vowed to struggle to get Rohit Act passed to ensure eradication of caste discrimination in educational institutions.
CPI leader Narayana also condemned the denial of permission and objected to heavy deployment of police personnel at the HCU.
Meanwhile the mother of deceased Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula on Wednesday went on a sit-in protest in front of the main entrance of Hyderabad Central University after she was denied entry inside the campus to meet students who were injured in a police lathicharge yesterday.
Radhika Vemula wanted to hold a demonstration inside, but was prevented from entering the HCU campus, HCU Chief Security Officer TV Rao said.
Raja Vemula, the younger brother of Rohit, said his mother wanted to meet the students who were injured yesterday in a police lathicharge.
“They did not allow her to enter the HCU campus, hence she sat on a dharna,” Raja said.
