President Droupadi Murmu will be on a seven-day state visit to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi from this Sunday. In the first leg of her visit, President Murmu will visit Algeria from the 13th to the 15th of October at the invitation of the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During the visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with her counterpart. The President will address the India-Algeria Economic Forum and the Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University. India and Algeria share cordial relations with cooperation in several fields including strategic areas like oil and gas, defence, and space cooperation. The visit is expected to further enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.
On the second leg of her visit, President Murmu will visit Mauritania on 16th October. The visit is taking place at a crucial juncture when Mauritania holds the Presidency of the African Union. During the visit, President Murmu will hold talks with the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. In addition, President Murmu will also interact with the members of the Indian community. The visit will provide further impetus to India-Mauritania bilateral relations.
In the last leg of her visit, President Murmu will visit Malawi from 17 to 19th October, at the invitation of the President of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. During the visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral meetings with Malawi’s leadership and interact with key trade and industry leaders and the Indian diaspora. The visit will reaffirm India’s strong commitment to further strengthen our existing friendly and cordial relations with Malawi.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Secretary (Economic Relations) Dammu Ravi said, India is looking at a stronger partnership with Africa. He said the visit is coming at a time when the African Union has become a prominent member of the G20 during India’s presidency last year. Mr Ravi said, Africa constitutes 54 countries and this is the core of the global South. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a lot of interest in driving the global south agenda. Mr Ravi said the partnership with Africa is very important and critical for our growth and the growth of the global south. He informed that the economic partnership between India and Africa is growing and the bilateral trade is almost 100 billion dollars annually.
