The 352nd birth anniversary of Guru Govind Singh is being celebrated as Prakash Utsav today in various parts of the country. Born at Patna Sahib in 1666, Guru Govind Singh was the 10th Sikh guru. He succeeded his father Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh as leader of Sikhs at the age of just nine.
President Ram Nath Kovind has paid homage to Guru Gobind Singh. In a tweet, Mr Kovind said, the Sikh Guru devoted his life to serving the people and upholding truth, justice and compassion. He said the example and teachings of the Guru continue to inspire people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tributes to Guru Gobind Singh on his birth anniversary.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Guru Gobind Singh was a divine figure full of heroism, valour, courage, sacrifice and devotion.
In an audio message, the Prime Minister said, whenever an attempt was made to suppress the voice of the poor and the weak, Guru Gobind Singh Ji raised his voice and stood firmly with the poor.
The birth anniversary of the Guru Gobind Singh is also being celebrated as Prakashotsava at Patna Sahib. The main function is organised at Takhat Sri Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara, Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, where thousands of pilgrims across the globe are offering prayers. Special langars are also being organised.
The birth anniversary of the Guru Gobind Singh is also being celebrated all over Punjab. Golden temple in Amritsar and all Gurudwaras of the state are illuminated. Devotees are visiting Gurudwaras from early morning to offer prayers.
On the eve of Gurupurab Religious processions were also organised at many places.
Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh has extended warm greetings on the occasion and called people to commit themselves to the propagation of the ideals propounded by the 10th Guru in the interest of humanity.
On this auspicious day, the Sikh community remembers Guru Gobind Singh’s contribution by offering prayers.
The 10th Sikh Guru was a spiritual leader, philosopher, poet and master warrior. He is considered as the eternal guru by his followers because of his contribution to Sikhism.
