The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister held its third meeting at the NITI Aayog here Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Chairman Dr Bibek Debroy and members Ratan P Watal, Surjit Bhalla, Rathin Roy, Ashima Goyal and Dr. Shamika Ravi.
During the meeting, the council continued its ongoing discussion on employment and growth.
Member of NITI Aayog Dr Ramesh Chand made a presentation on Strategic options for enhancing agricultural productivity, income and pro-employment growth in agriculture and allied sectors.
Secretary in Ministry of Rural Development Amarjeet Sinha made a presentation on Mission Antodaya for poverty free panchayats.
Officer on Special Duty to the Economic Advisory Council Kishore Desai made a presentation on trade-related issues. Part-time members of the council, Dr Rathin Roy and Dr Surjit Bhalla presented an update on the economic track monitor.
During its second meeting last month, the council had spelt out a road map for stepping up skill development, job creation, enhanced resource investment in the social sector including Health and Education and for boosting Infrastructure financing.
It had also formulated recommendations to guide the evolving framework for the Fifteenth Finance Commission, including the incentivization of States for achieving Health, Education and Social Inclusion outcomes.
