After a month of turbulence in Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today finally reached out to the people of state saying he was ready to hold dialogue with Kashmiris under the framework of ‘insaniyat (humanity), jamhuriyat (democracy) and Kashmiriyat’.

“When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister he had adopted the path of insaniyat, jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat and we walk the same road. I want to tell the brothers and sisters of Kashmir from this great birthplace of Chandra Shekhar Azad that Kashmir has the same strength that has been given to (other parts of) India by our freedom fighters. Kashmir has the same freedom that every Indian feels,” PM said.

Mr. Modi said it was painful to see that innocent youngsters, who should be holding laptops, book and cricket bats, have been given stones. He appealed to the people for maintaining peace and harmony in of Kashmir the “heaven” on earth.

He was Speaking at a public meeting at Bhabra in Madhya Pradesh the birthplace of freedom fighter Chander Shekhar Azad.

J&K govt welcomes PM Modi statement on Kashmir

The Prime Minister said Kashmir has the freedom which is felt by Indians everywhere and asserted that the Mehbooba Mufti government and the Centre are working together to solve the state’s difficulties but some people, who are unable to digest it, are clinging onto the path to destruction.

“Whether it is the J&K Govt under Mehbooba ji or the Central Govt, we are finding a solution to all problems through development. Kashmir wants peace. Whatever Kashmiris want for betterment of their livelihood, the Centre will help. We want development for J&K,” said Modi.

“Kashmir, which we give so much love to, some people there are causing it a lot of harm,” he said during a rally in Madhya Pradesh.

However, the prime minister didn’t talk about the civilian killings in Kashmir. 55 civilians have died in forces’ action on protests that erupted after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.

Modi said that some people were causing trouble in Kashmir.
