Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all religious leaders and social organisations to launch mass-movement against drug menace. Addressing Veer Bal Diwas in New Delhi today, Mr Modi touched upon the menace of drugs in society and stressed tackling it by coming together as a nation and society. He said, Sabka Prayas is imperative for a capable and strong youth power, remembering that the teachings of ‘Sabka Prayas’ as imparted by the Gurus will make India a developed nation.

The Prime Minister advised the youth to give top priority to their health as it is crucial to achieving the desired results in life. He suggested the youth make some ground rules for themselves and firmly adhere to them as he mentioned the challenges of physical exercise, digital detox, mental fitness, adequate sleep and including Shri Anna or millets in their diet.

Calling India the powerhouse of youth, Mr. Modi said, the country did not have so many youth during the period of freedom struggle.  He further said the coming 25 years is bringing new and big opportunities for the youth.
The Prime Minister said, to fulfill the dreams of today’s youth, the Government has a clear roadmap, vision and policy.  He remarked that be it economics, science, research, sports, or policies, on every front India is striving to achieve new heights. He said this is the time of India. He said, the first Veer Bal Diwas was observed on 26th December last year. Veer Baal Diwas is a symbol of resolve to do anything to safeguard the country. Mr. Modi stated that this day makes us remember that tender age has nothing to do when it comes to bravery. He added that programmes related to Veer Bal Diwas are also being celebrated in the United States, Britain, UAE, Greece and Australia.

Mr. Modi said, the battle of Chamkaur and Sarhind, which was fought three hundred years ago, cannot be forgotten and the young generation should be introduced to it. Hailing the sacrifice of the ancestors, the Prime Minister said, that when atrocities and injustice were inflicted upon Indians, people fought with the oppressors with self-respect. He added that the country’s ancestors from every age group made their supreme sacrifice for the motherland. Mr. Modi elaborated that earlier the world did not give us any attention. He said, now that we take pride in our heritage, the outlook of the world has also changed.

The Prime Minister said, today the whole world is acknowledging India as the land of opportunities. He emphasised that India is playing a key role in solving the global problems of economy, science, research, sports and diplomacy. Mr Modi reiterated the clarion call that he gave from the Red Fort – Yahi Samay hai, Sahi Samay Hai. The Prime Minister advised the youth to give top priority to their health, as it is crucial to achieving the desired results in life.

Speaking on the occasion, Women and Child Development Minister, Smriti Irani said, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ is not limited to a mere policy, but has become intent. She exhorted the majority of children who were part of the gathering by saying that they possess immense talent, become courageous and to ensure victory, be determined for the well-being of the country.

The Veer Bal Diwas marks the martyrdom of Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s sons Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. On the day of the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in January last year, Prime Minister Modi announced that the 26th of December would be observed as Veer Bal Diwas.

The Government is organising participative programmes all over the country to inform and educate the citizens, especially young children, about the story of the exemplary courage of the Sahibzades. A digital exhibition detailing the life story and sacrifice of the Sahibzades is being displayed in schools and childcare institutions across the country.  Various online competitions like interactive quizzes are being organised through MYBharat and MyGov portals. Mr. Modi also flagged off a march-past by youth on the occasion.
