LAHORE (AMN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today was accorded a warm welcome as he made a brief surprise stopover here to meet his Pakistani counterpart on his birthday. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif received his Indian counterpart at the Allama Iqbal International. The two leaders embraced and warmly shook hands.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar were also present at the airport to receive the guest. A young girl presented a bouquet to the Indian leader. The two leaders later boarded a helicopter to the Prime Minister’s residence at Jati Umra
Earlier today, in a message on Twitter, Indian premier Narendra Modi said he spoke to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and wished him on his birthday.
Imran, Bilawal welcome Modi visit
LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan have welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pakistan.
In his comments, Bilawal said the only solution to Pak-India issues is constant communication between the two countries. He said they welcome Modi in Pakistan.
Welcoming Modi’s visit, Imran Khan said he had also invited the Indian Premier to Pakistan during his visit to India.
He said frequent meetings between the heads of two states will have positive impact on the bilateral relations of both countries, adding that improvement in Pak-India ties is inevitable for sustainable peace in the region.
Sajjan Jindal also in Lahore to ‘greet PM Nawaz on birthday’
Indian steel magnate Sajjan Jindal, the brother of former Congress MP Naveen Jindal, who reportedly arranged the secret meeting between Nawaz and Modi in Katmandu is also in Pakistan. “In Lahore to greet PM Nawaz Sharif on his birthday,” Jindal tweeted.
