Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today unveiled a series of initiatives in New Delhi aimed at making India’s logistics sector more efficient and business-friendly.

At the centre of the announcements was the release of the Assessment of Logistics Cost in India report, which provides a detailed framework for measuring logistics expenses across transport modes, product categories, and business sizes. The report also estimates freight costs per tonne-kilometre and underlines the importance of multi-modal transport in improving efficiency.

Marking the 10-year celebrations of the Make in India initiative, Mr. Goyal also launched:

  • Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS) 3.0 – to give investors transparent information and encourage healthy competition among States and UTs.
  • Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0 – to enhance data-driven logistics management.
  • Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 – a benchmarking tool to assess and improve logistics performance nationwide.

To commemorate the decade of Make in India, the Minister also unveiled a special commemorative coin.

Mr. Goyal emphasised that these initiatives will lower logistics costs, boost competitiveness, and help realise India’s vision of a globally competitive, future-ready logistics ecosystem.
