For the fourth consecutive day today, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned without transacting any legislative business following uproar by the Congress-led opposition.
The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha witnessed one adjournment each before adjourning finally for the day as opposition stalled proceedings by trooping into the well amidst sloganeering.
As soon as the Lok Sabha met in the morning, members from AIADMK, NDA’s ally TDP and YSR Congress party trooped into the well raising slogans. Congress, Left parties and TMC and others raised the issue of irregularities in the banking sector.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government is ready for discussion over the issue under relevant rules. TDP and YSR Congress MPs continued their protests on the demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh.
Members from AIADMK raised the issue of the constitution of Cauvery Management Board. Amid noisy scene, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House till tomorrow. Earlier, she congratulated women members on the occasion of International Women Day.
As soon as the Rajya Sabha met at 2 PM after its first adjournment, members belonging to several parties again trooped into the well displaying placards in support of their demands amid sloganeering.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Finance P. Radhakrishnan tabled the Supplementary Demands for Grants 2017-18. In the pre-lunch period, the House dedicated the Zero Hour in which members made references on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Amidst pandemonium, Deputy Chairman Prof. P. J. Kurien adjourned the House till tomorrow.
