The Lahore High Court court today ordered immediate release Mumbai terror attacks mastermind and LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. The Court dismissed the Punjab government’s detention order against him.
The Court took the decision after the Pakistan government failed to present sensitive records against him in the court.
The Court ordered Lakhvi to submit two surety bonds worth Rs 1 million each for his release. Lakhvi had challenged the March 14 order of the Punjab government to detain him for 30 days.
The Punjab government had previously maintained the stance that Lakhvi has been detained based on sensitive information provided by intelligence agencies.
Lakhvi and six others have been charged with planning and executing the Mumbai terror attacks in November, 2008 that left 166 people dead.
Reacting to the development, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju reiterated India’s stand that Pakistan authorities and investigation agencies must give all evidence to court and sincerely present the case of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. Mr Rijiju was talking to media on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi.
