Adding another dimension in the high-stake political fight, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to test electoral waters in Bihar The AIMIM yesterday said it will field candidates in mainly Seemanchal region, which has a seizable minority population, the party’s core vote base.
AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said instead of contesting all the Assembly seats, his party will limit itself to Seemanchal which comprises four districts – Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj and Katihar. He said in Hyderabad that his party is contesting the election in the interest and justice of Seemanchal region. However, he did not disclose the number of seats his party will contest. The region accounts for two dozen Assembly seats. The party has appointed Akhtarul Imam as President of its Bihar unit.
The BJP has claimed that the entry of AIMIM into Bihar will make no difference to its poll prospects as their attempt to create a fear factor among the minority community will not work in the state. BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain yesterday claimed a number of former ministers and Members of Parliament from the minority community have joined his party and that the NDA alliance will emerge victorious in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said youth of Bihar wants development and will not vote on caste or communal lines.
