Government today said that more than 700 Indian nationals have been evacuated from strife-torn Yemen and 350 Indian nationals have come back home.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, around 2,000 to 2,500 Indian nationals have expressed their wish to come back and the government hopes to significantly enhance evacuation efforts.

He asserted that air evacuation from Sanaa will begin if everything goes well. He said, 500 Indian nationals will be repatriated from Sana to Djibouti after receiving all clearances. More than 300 Indian nationals were evacuated from Yemeni port city of Al Hudaydah through sea route yesterday.

The Government has stepped up its efforts to get clearance for air sorties to bring back Indians from Sanaa.
