Over 43 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has so far been purchased by government procurement agencies. An official spokesperson said in Chandigarh on Sunday that 43,61,437 metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in mandis in the state so far, out of which 43,61,322 metric tonnes of wheat has been purchased. He said keeping in view the possibility of rain, the traders in mandis have been asked to make sufficient arrangements of tarpaulin, wooden crates and polythene to save the wheat from rains.
