Over 2,000 citizens from across India—including academics, lawyers, journalists, artists, activists and concerned citizens—have signed a petition addressed to the Chief Justice of India and the companion judges of the Supreme Court, seeking urgent judicial intervention on the functioning of the Election Commission of India and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The petition raises serious concerns about the alleged centralisation of the voter database, changes to electoral forms, the role of the ECINet technology platform in the revision process, and the possibility of large-scale deletion of voters.
The petition urges the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance, examine the functioning of the Election Commission, and immediately stay the SIR process to ensure that no eligible citizen is arbitrarily excluded from the electoral rolls.
The signatories include prominent academics, former public officials, lawyers, journalists, writers, artists and human rights activists from across India.
