Parliament is all set to witness heated debate or adjournments as Winter Session began on Thursday. Both Opposition and the government have hardly changed their position on important issues.

Opposition parties including Congress, JD(U) and the Left have submitted notices for adjournment motions demanding a debate on the issue of intolerance and passage of a resolution condemning such incidents.

On the other hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all political parties to work together to enable Parliament function upto the expectations of the people.

Speaking at the meeting of Leaders of all parties and groups in both the Houses, Mr Modi expressed satisfaction over leaders favouring smooth functioning of Parliament. On GST, Mr. Modi said, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is in touch with leaders of different parties. He also sought suggestions and views from different parties for the Climate change summit to be held in Paris later this month.

Speaking at the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, government is ready for a discussion on intolerance. He, however, said government does not share the perception that intolerance is on the rise in the country. He said, some stray incidents that have happened in recent weeks are the responsibility of state governments.

Taking a look on the business scheduled for the upcoming month long session, there are 38 legislative proposals which have been identified for consideration and passing in the winter session. Of them, passage of Goods and Service Tax bill ,which has already been cleared by the Lok Sabha, is on the top of the agenda.

Other important bills include Real Estate Regulation, Prevention of Corruption Amendment Bill and Juvenile Justice Amendment Bill. Besides there are three ordinances including the Negotiable Instrument (Amendment) and the Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) ordinances for consideration.

On first two days of the session, both the Houses will hold special sittings to commemorate adoption of the Constitution on 26th of November 1949 and honour its architect Dr. B. R. Ambedkar From this year onwards, 26th November will be celebrated as Constitution Day
