Laud IAF action against Jaish terror camp

Opposition parties today lauded Indian Air Force action against the terror camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed and praised the armed forces for their valour and bravery.

In a joint statement issued after their meeting in New Delhi, 21 opposition parties condemned the Pulwama terror attack and paid homage to martyrs and expressed solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces in crushing the menace of terrorism.

They, however, accused the ruling party of politicizing the sacrifices of armed forces, saying that the national security must transcend narrow political considerations.

Reading out a joint statement, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said the meeting also condemned Pakistan’s misadventure and expressed deep concern for the safety of the missing Indian pilot. He said the parties have urged the government to take the nation into confidence on all measures to protect India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity.

The statement added, “National security must transcend narrow political considerations. The leader observed that the Prime Minister has regrettably not convened an-all party meeting as the established practice in our democracy.”

While expressing “concern on the emerging security situation”, the statement noted that the MEA had confirmed the “targeting” of Indian millitary installations and the “loss of one fighter aircraft” and “condemned the Pakistani misadventure and expressed their deep concern for the safety of pilot”.

“Leaders urged the Government to take the nation into confidence on all measures to protect India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity,” added Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) leader.

The meeting was attended by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP Chief Chandra Babu Naidu, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar are attending the meeting.

Tiruchi Siva of DMK, Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav are among others present in the meeting.
