Expressing displeasure and deep concern over centre’s move to strip Aligarh Muslim and Jamia Milia Islamia universities of their of the minority status , eight opposition parties MPs have asked president Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the matter. These MPs have also decided to raise the issue in the forthcoming Budget session of the Parliament.
“We would launch a signature campaign on the issue of AMU which will request the president of India to intervene on the whip of communal forces”, they said in a statement
“We condemn the move of the statement of the Attorney General of India who has blatantly tried to outrage the rich tradition of Ganga Jamuni Tehjeeb by mentioning before the Supreme court that these two institutions are not minority institutions,” said a statement jointly issued by eight eight MPs that include Manish Tiwari ( Congress), K.C. Tyagi (JD-U), Sukhendu Roy (TMC). D.P. tripathi (NCP),D Raja (CPI) and Ritabrata Banerjee (CPI-M), J P Yadav (RJD), Bhagwat Mann (AAP).
