Odisha government has dismissed 408 doctors for leaving their place of duty without approved permission of the authority for a long period.

On the recommendation of the state health department, the government had initiated disciplinary proceedings against 412 doctors, who had been absent from their duty for a long period and remaining incommunicado. However, only four doctors turned up and explained causes of their absence and appealed the department not to sack them. AIR correspondent reports that this is first time that the Odisha Public Service Commission, which had recruited these doctors, gave its concurrence to sack them.
