Renowned Urdu poet Bashar Navaaz Passed away yesterday at his native place Aurangabad (Maharashtra). He was 80. Bashar was popular both in India and Pakistan. His gazals are popular in India as well as Pakistan. His books ‘Rayagan’, ‘Ajanabee samandar’ was very appreciated by gazal lovers.

As lyricist he wrote number of gazals for bollywood movies like ‘Bazaar’, ‘Loree’, ‘Jaane vafaa’, ‘Tere Shahar me’, etc. The Gazal “Karoge yaad to har baat yaad aayegee” from film Bazaar is all time hit song.

Bashar Navaaz was honored with ‘Galib award’ of Galib Academy New Delhi, Maharashtra State Urdu Academy award, Maharashtra State Iftekhaar E Adab award.

Mohammad Rafi, Talat Aziz, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Gulam Ali and Bhupendra, among others, had lent voice to his lyrics.

Born on August 18, 1935 at Aurangabad, Nawaz’s writings were regularly published in various Urdu literary journals.

Initially he was influenced by the Leftist movement which reflected in his poems. He also wrote radio dramas and scripted the television serial ‘Amir Khusrau’.
