The situation in Nasik is returning to normal. The district had witnessed violent protests at several places recently against the alleged rape attempt by a teenage boy on a five-year-old girl at Talegaon village near Trimbakeshwar. No untoward incident was reported yesterday. The State Transport Bus services, which were closed for last two days, have resumed.

The traffic at Mumbai-Agra road is also running smoothly. Police have booked around 200 people for pelting stones and disrupting public life. Tension had gripped various parts of the district on Saturday night when the incident came to light. The villagers had staged rasta roko at several prominent roads including Mumbai-Agra National Highway the next day.

They set on fire a State Transport bus and damaged some vehicles including those of police. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had appealed for calm and gave an assurance that the case would be tried in a fast track court.
