West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sparked off a new debate on whether Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was alive or not even after 1945. After declassifying 64 files pertaining to the last days of Netaji from 1937 to 1947 in Kolkata Friday, Ms. Banerjee said that she had gone through some files and had got the impression that Netaji was alive even after 1945.
In some files, the then CID, Intelligence and Administrative officials had dismissed the Taiwan Air Crash theory.
The West Bengal Government yesterday declassified 64 files pertaining to the last days of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, one of the foremost freedom fighters of India. The Kolkata Police Chief Surojit Kar Purakayasto at a ceremony at the Kolkata Police Museum released the files, which trace the history of Netaji’s life between 1937 and 1947, into the public domain this morning.
The 12,744 pages of the 64 files have been digitised in the form of compact discs (CDs). The original files will be kept at the Kolkata Police Museum and will be open for public viewing from next Monday. The Kolkata Police Chief gave the first copies of digitised files away to the close family members and kins of Netaji. The representatives of different media houses were also given a copy of the digitised files.
