Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava today underscored the need to address the rising cases of strokes in the country. She informed that nearly 500 stroke units are currently operational across the country and the network will be expanded to ensure wider access to specialised care.
The Secretary was addressing during the National Stroke Summit 2025 organised in New Delhi today.
Ms. Srivastava said, 66 per cent of deaths in the country are caused by non-communicable diseases. She emphasised that stroke is preventable with timely intervention.
The National Stroke Summit aims to address the growing challenge of stroke in the country with a focus on raising awareness about its prevention and treatment. The Summit aims to address challenges such as delayed patient arrivals, limited understanding of acute stroke therapies and infrastructural gaps. During the event, two reports titled National Stroke Action Plan and Stroke in India: Context and Latest Clinical Evidence were released.
