sonia gandhiCongress President Sonia Gandhi today alleged that the NDA government was trying to destroy the roots of democracy. Addressing Loktantra Bachao March at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Mrs Gandhi said, Congress would not buckle under any form of injustice. She said Congress-led governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh were dislodged by the Central Government by use of money power. She asked the party workers to unmask the NDA government in a democratic way.

Addressing the march, party vice president Rahul Gandhi said, the Prime Minister has spoken of ‘Acche Din’ but today the country is reeling under drought, farmers are committing suicides and unfortunately the government has nothing to say. He said, the government has failed to provide jobs to the youth of the country despite tall claims of generating jobs.

 Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi were detained by the Delhi police when they tried to march towards Parliament.

However, after a brief detention the Congress leaders were released by the police.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has criticised the Congress top brass for alleging that government is trying to destroy the roots of democracy. Reacting to the Save Democracy March of the Congress party, Mr Naidu said, it had dismissed several elected governments and now it is protesting to save democracy.

The Minister wondered how can the Congress party, which had imposed emergency, put lakhs of people in jail, censured press, tampered democratic rights of people, is now talking and shouting slogan of save democracy.
