When this correspondent raised the issue of killing of a pregnant woman and a six-month-old baby with the minister, she said that her ministry would soon send a team of NCW to Forbesganj as picture coming from Bihar was very disturbing.
“First we will see the finding of the NCW and if the report is not satisfactory, we would demand a CBI probe into whole incident”, She said adding that such incidents are condemnable whether it happened in Bihar or some other parts of the country.
On June 3 the Bihar police brutally killed five villagers, including a pregnant woman and a six-month-old baby when they were protesting against establishment of a glucose factory which intended to block their way to their home in Forbesganj area of Araria district, about 350 km from Patna.
The minister however called for a CBI probe into UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri incident where a minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered.
“ We would request the UP government for CBI inquiry. If those involved are found to be police official as is being alleged, it would call for even more stringent action as they are the custodian of law enforcement”, she said.

Earler the minister discussed the issue with Home Minister P Chidambaram and said he has taken note of many such cases coming to light in recent times. “The Centre wants to amend the definition of rape to make the law against it more stringent”, she said
“A committee is already working on this and after its report comes, suitable steps will be taken,” Tirath said.
