Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said nobody can forget June 25th and 26th when the nation was turned into a jail and bound with chains of Emergency for lust of power 40 years back. But today the government wants to preserve the dreams under which all citizens prosper under a democratic system, Mr Modi said. He was speaking at the launch of three flagship schemes for urban revamp in New Delhi this morning.
The Prime Minister said, during the emergency, lakhs of people were imprisoned, the press was censored and the radio only spoke what the Government wanted. Mr Modi said, the decision to set up a memorial for Jai Prakash Narain will always inspire those who love democracy. The Union Cabinet yesterday decided to setup a national memorial for Jai Prakash Narayan in his birthplace.
