NEW DELHI :(AMN) Prominent Muslim leaders have condemned the Sunday shoot out incident near the historical Jama Masjid in which to Taiwanese were injured. They also demanded fair enquiry into whole incident.
Though they see the attack as a plot to derail forthcoming commonwealth games, they also feared that it could be a conspiracy of maligning India Muslims. They said that the way a section of media has been propagating the name of Indian Mujahideen is creating trouble in mind of Muslim who have been living peacefully for some time.
While condemning the incident, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Ahmad Bukhari said that the way the name of Indian Mujahideen is propagated by a section of media reflected the heinous design to target Muslim youths. He said that Indian Muslims have nothing to do with Indian Mujahideen. He recalled that when first fax from IM was received some years back it was from Khalsa college Mumbai. He said that there could be a conspiracy to malign Indian Muslims in the name of IM. He said that the culprit must be arrested soon.
Shahi Imam Mufti Mukarram of Fatehpuri Masjid said that the incident exposed police preparedness in the city. He demanded more security in the crowded areas.
Terming the incident as incapability of the of Delhi police, Mahmood Madani of Jamiatul Ulema-e- Hind said that it could be a ploy to create ill will in the society. He said that the incident could be meant to disturb communal amity in the society. He demanded a fair investigation in the whole incident.
The general secretary of All India Milli Council Dr Manzor Alam also said that the police should investigate the incident from all angle. Condemning the incident, he said that no one should be harassed before the investigation is completed. Several other Muslim organizations have also made similar demand.
A B Masoud adds: After the shooting incident near Jama Masjid the Delhi police have reportedly started detaining Muslim youths in several parts of the Muslim dominated areas in the city. It is reported that the police have detained a scores of youths at Zaidpur in Muslim–dominate Okhla area in South Delhi. Locals alleged that police personnel whisked away around 20 youths in a van for questioning. Bukhari has warned that he won’t tolerate arrest of any innocent Muslims. Hue also revealed that police has asked him to hush up a bomb explosion before the 2006 twin blast in the mosque. Delhi Police, however refuted the claims.
