AMN / NEW DELHI

A group of prominent Muslims of India have strongly condemned the killing of twenty-five Sikhs in the capital city of Afghanistan on 25 March.

In a long statement released to the media they have said that they see it as “merciless killing of our own innocent brothers” and denounced it as a “heinous crime deserving severest punishment.” The statement offered “sincere condolence on behalf of the Muslims of India to our Sikh brothers and sisters and their religious leaders” and added that the killers may call themselves “Muslims” but are in fact hard-core criminals for whom there is no space in Islam.

“The criminal murderous attack on a Kabul gurudwara on 25 March, leading to the martyrdom of 25 innocent and blameless Sikh brothers, is a matter of sorrow and grief for us just as it is for our Sikh brothers and sisters. We fully and unconditionally condemn this criminal act.

We, on behalf of the Muslims of India, offer our condolences to our Sikh brothers and sisters and in particular to Giani Dr Harpreet Singh-ji, Jathedar Akal Takht Amritsar, and to the Sikh leadership and people everywhere. And since the criminal killers call themselves “Muslims,” we wish to inform our Sikh brothers and sisters that these criminals have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims.

We wish to emphasise to our Sikh brothers and sisters that the criminals of the ISIS (Daesh), who criminally attacked the Sikh gurudwara in Kabul, have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims. They, in fact, follow the ideas of the Khawarij rebels who were never accepted by Muslims and who are considered by Muslims as rebels and outlaws working against Islam. They, in terms of their character, plans, words and deeds, serve the enemies of Islam and humanity and commit everything which is against Islamic teachings and Muslims.

All of us, in our personal capacities, had already at once condemned this criminal act. Now we collectively condemn this criminal act and we assure our Sikh brothers and sisters that we are with you in your times of grief and joy.” the letter said
