The Ashura-e-Muharram was observed across India with due reverence and solemnity on Monday. The day marks the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, who laid down their lives for upholding truth, righteousness and justice in Karbala.
Tazia processions were taken out to mark the occasion which were buried later in the evening at designated places.
Majlis or religious meetings were also organized where religious scholars highlighted various aspects of the Karbala incident.
In Uttar Pradesh, millions of Muslims mourned in various cities on the day of Ashoora to pay homage to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala.
Slogan of Ya Hussain reverberated on the streets of Lucknow, which has the highest number of Shia Muslims in the country.
The main procession started from Victoria Street and thousands thronged for ritual mourning which included Nauhakhwani, matam and performance of Seenazani. In Jaunpur, Bareily, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Firozabad, large number of processions were taken out and different style of colourful Tazias, a replica of Tomb of Imam Hussain were seen which included Eco-Friendly and whole glass Tazias.
