In Delhi, seven Congress MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and handed over their resignation letters along with that of two other MPs who could not be present.

Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao met the Officer on Special Duty to Chairman Hamid Ansari and submitted his resignation.over 70 legislators, including 11 State Ministers from the region tendered their resignations on Monday. Nine Congress party members of parliament have also tendered their resignations for a separate state of Telangana.

The ruling Congress legislators from Telangana region including Ministers sent their resignation papers to the Deputy Speaker Vikramarka on Monday morning. So far, 11 Ministers and 25 MLAs of ruling Congress have put in their papers while 12 MLCs also resigned. Thirty Three legislators of the opposition Telugu Desam Party from the region have also resigned after their Congress counterparts tendered resignations.
The resignations are still continuing with both ruling Congress and Opposition Telugu Desam legislators sending their papers by hand and by fax to the office of the Deputy Speaker. State Panchayathi Raj Minister Jana Reddy said, it was only aimed at reflecting people’s sentiments over statehood for Telangana. He further said, they would not withdraw resignations till statehood for Telangana is announced.

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader K Keshav Rao has resigned from Rajya Sabha to press for the formation of a separate Telangana state. Mr. Rao, Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, met the Officer on Special Duty to the Upper House Chairman, Hamid Ansari Monday morning and submitted his resignation.

Announcing the resolve of MPs and MLAs belonging to Telengana region, to press for the demand of a separate state, it has been said in a joint statement released in New Delhi on Saturday that they all will resign today to protest Centre’s alleged delay in doing so.
Eight Lok Sabha members from the state are expected to resign on Monday evening during their scheduled meeting with Speaker Meira Kumar.
