Hurricane Harvey has weakened since it hit South Texas head-on late Friday but forecasters say water levels will still rise as torrential rain and blasting winds continue over the next days
In the United States, Texas is bracing for Hurricane Harvey which has strengthened to a Category 4 storm. Category 4 winds range from 200 to 250 kms per hour and can cause widespread damage.
The storm, expected to be the worst to hit Texas in nearly two decades, is nearing the state’s central coast and is expected to hit later today.
Residents staying in the area have stocked up on food, water and gas, while others heading out of the storm’s path boarded up windows and doors of their homes and businesses. Airlines have cancelled flights and schools have been closed.
After landfall, the Hurricane is expected to bring widespread heavy rain and flooding to southeast Texas continuing through the weekend.
President Donald Trump said in a tweet that he had spoken with the Governors of Texas and Louisiana and was ready to assist as needed.
