Most of the stranded people at the Chinchoti waterfall in Vasai in Palghar district of Maharashtra, have been rescued. They were stranded following continuous rainfall in the area. Officials said, nearly 100 people were rescued by teams of the National Disaster Response Force, the Fire Brigade and local police. The rescue operation is underway for 12 other stranded persons. Reports say, one person has died.
The waterfall, a popular destination among tourists during the monsoon, is situated in Tungareshwar forest, over 70 kilometres from Mumbai.
