A meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accepted the proposal of the National Commission for Backward Classes to amend the central list of OBCs.

The 14 states where OBCs will benefit are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will now have to notify the amendments.
