UNION Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said, the Centre is working for the welfare of farmers and the agriculture sector through reforms, good governance and innovation.

Addressing the valedictory ceremony of three-day Krishi Unnati Mela in New Delhi this afternoon, Mr Singh said, the steps taken by the Narendra Modi government for the welfare of farmers are now giving encouraging results and have brought qualitative changes. He said, with a new working style, the government has been able to bring awareness to farmers for use of technology and innovation.

The Minister said, the previous government spent only 1 lakh 21,000 crores for agriculture during its tenure, but the current government has already spent 2 lakh 11,000 crores in four years time. He said, every year there has been an increase in the spending and budgetary provisions for the agriculture sector. Mr Singh said, the government is committed to doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
