High alert was sounded in the Khammam district following kidnap of six Telangana Rashtra Samiti, TRS leaders by Maoists coupled with major encounter in the bordering Chattishgarh state. Police stepped up security across the district particularly at the check posts and suspected people were being questioned. Special police forces led by district SP Shanawaaj Khasim intensified combing operations in the tribal agency area to trace out the whereabouts of the abducted leaders.

Six TRS leaders belonging to the Bhadrachalama division were kidnapped by Maoists on Wednesday evening. The maoists have reportedly set three demands for the release of abducted TRS leaders. The demands included immediate halt to combing operations in the tribal belt.
