Manpreet Singh Badal’s People’s Party of Punjab, PPP has merged with Congress. Mr Badal met party Vice President Rahul Gandhi after the merger in New Delhi, and presented an 11 point memorandum to him. Briefing media, Mr Badal said Congress is the right platform for the growth of Punjab.
He said he resigned from Shiromani Akali Dal government and floated his own party because of differences with their policies. He said Punjab has fallen from being the jewel of India and the menace of illiteracy, and drug addiction have taken root.
Expressing happiness at Mr Badal joining Congress, state party chief Captain Amrinder Singh said the campaign for next year’s assembly polls has started on a good note. He said they are now looking for an alliance and trying to get all secular forces together.
