West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the killing of a labourer from West Bengal on Thursday, who was burnt alive to so called “save a girl from ‘love jihad’”.
The incident took place in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district and the accused, Shambunath Raigar, also recorded the horrific act which was uploaded on social media. The video has gone viral.
“We strongly condemn the heinous killing of a labourer from Bengal in Rajasthan. How can people be so inhuman? Sad,” Mamata tweeted.

Police are interrogating the accused, according to Rajsamand Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar.
In the video, which cannot be independently verified for its authenticity, it can be seen that Shambu Lal wearing red-shirt and white pants leading the labourer to a spot. Later, Shambunath Raigar attacks the labourer with an axe repeatedly and burns the body after pours inflammable substance on it.
The accused after carrying out the attack can be heard making inflammatory and communal remarks. He warned ‘love-jihadis’ of similar fate.
According to media reports, the Rajnagar Police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearing of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The tool used for the murder, the victim’s motorbike and his slippers were found on the crime scene.
State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria while confirming the development said that the accused has been arrested and a special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the case.
