The Maharashtra government has affirmed that it is in favour of providing reservation and facilities to the Maratha community. It said that the government will build hostels for 50 male and 50 female students in the community. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the cabinet sub-committee chaired by State Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil formed for the purpose yesterday.

It was also decided that in the districts where the hostels are already built there renovation work will be immediately done. Besides, where the hostels are not in existence there tender process will be issued for the private players to take part to build hostels.

A review petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on the matter of Maratha reservation.
