Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan Wednesday hosted a farewell dinner in honour of the outgoing Vice President Hamid Ansari.
The function was also attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Speaker Dr M Thambi Durai. Ms Mahajan also presented a memento to Mrs Salma Ansari on the occasion.
The voting for new Vice President of India will take place on Saturday, August 5. Mr Ansari was first elected as the Vice-President on August 10, 2007 and he had taken charge on August 11, 2007. He was reelected on 7 August 2012. Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu is pitted against united opposition nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi for the election to the office of the Vice President.
