Thousands of people pay last respects to departed leader

Amid a sea of people, including top politicians, across the country, Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav was cremated with state honours in his native village in Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam, 82, passed away on Monday at Medanta hospital in Gurugram at 8.16 am after a prolonged illness.
Last rites of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav were performed with full hounours in Saifai, his native village in Etawah district, of Uttar Pradesh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Loksabha speaker Om Birla, congress leader Mallikarjun Khadge, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel, CM of Jharkhand Hemant Soren, former Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu, film actress Jaya Bacchan along with her son Abhishek Bachchan and thousands of Samajwadi Party workers and leaders attendant the funeral of Mulayam Singh Yadav. His son and party president Akhilesh Yadav lit the pyre.
Mulayam Singh Yadav died yesterday morning in a private hospital in Gurugram after a prolonged illness. State government has announced three days mourning on the death of the former chief minister.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was one of the most prominent leaders of Uttar Pradesh who served as the Chief Minister of the state thrice and has also served in the Union Government as the Minister of Defence. He was elected 10 times as MLA and 7 times as Lok Sabha MP.
The mortal remains of Mulayam Singh Yadav arrived at his native Saifai village on Monday, hours after the leader died at a Gurugram hospital.
Mulayam was admitted to the hospital in August, was shifted to ICU on October 2 and was on lifesaving drugs since. According to hospital sources, he breathed his last at 8.15 a.m. on Monday.
