Union territory Ladakh has celebrated its 74th Independence Day today. As a young Union Territory, this is the first Independence Day celebration for the Union territory.

The Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur hoisted the National flag at historic polo grounds in Leh to begin the 74th independence day today. In his address, LG RK Mathur informed the Ladakh that the Union Home Ministry is preparing a Domicile act for Ladakh to ensure the security of Jobs and Land rights.

In his address RK Mathur assured all round development of Ladakh. With the unprecedented non-lapsable funds of over Rs 50,000 crore, Ladakh will have long lasting infrastructure.

He said, focus will be on all weather roads with new tunnels to keep connectivity ensured within the region and outside the world. Mathur said, Rs 200 crore have been sanctioned to improve the air connectivity to Kargil district.

Mr Mathur has listed various developmental activities taken place in the last nine months of Union Territory. He also said a special focus by the Union government is enabling the speedy development in Ladakh region, in the fields of Agriculture, education, infrastructure, Health and Employee welfare.

He said to realise the PM Modi vision for carbon neutral Ladakh, the UT administration is already working with GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and other agencies. Mr Mathur felicitated the COVID warriors for their selfless service during the Pandemic. He also lauded services by various agencies and employees of UT administration.
