Former Navy Commander Kulbushan Jadhav who has been sentenced to death on charges of espionage in Pakistan has made a mercy petition to the Pakistani Chief of Army Staff. Inter Services Public Relations of Pakistan in a release said, Jadhav seeking forgiveness has requested that his life be spared on compassionate grounds.

Commander Jadhav had earlier appealed to the Military Appellate Court which was rejected. Under the law he is eligible to appeal for clemency to the COAS and if rejected, subsequently to the President of Pakistan.

International Court of Justice has stayed Jadhav’s execution recently. The Court has asked Pakistan not to execute Jadhav till its final judgment in the case.
